Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) picked up her first career double-double and the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team set up a game to decide the Arrowhead Conference championship after rallying for a 76-71 overtime victory at Kishwaukee on Tuesday night.

The Chargers (12-13 overall, 5-1 Arrowhead) have won five straight conference games and kept pace with Black Hawk (6-1), which won Tuesday at home against Illinois Valley and has one league matchup left. Sandburg hosts IVCC on Thursday before playing Tuesday at Black Hawk. The Chargers are assured of playing for at least a share of the conference title against the Braves.

To get to that point, Sandburg had to come back from a 48-43 deficit entering the fourth quarter against Kishwaukee (5-19, 0-7). The Chargers tied the game at 63 at the end of regulation, then outscored the Kougars 13-8 in OT.

Jackson put up a team-best 21 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double as a Charger. She also finished one point away from matching her career-best, set Nov. 23 at Milwaukee Area Tech. Jackson hit 8 of 17 shots against Kishwaukee and had a team-leading five of Sandburg’s 17 steals.

Sophomore Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Sandburg. Freshman guard Destiny Allen (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) added 11 points for the Chargers on 5-for-7 shooting.

Morgan Baker led the Kougars with a game-high 29 points, and Cesca Vardman added 20 for Kishwaukee.

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
5:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Illinois Valley on Sophomore Night. The Chargers’ six sophomores (Jackson, Lovetinsky, Cora Neal, Sophie Whitford, Faith Price and Alyssa Hopson) will be honored following the contest. It also will be the final regular-season home game for Sandburg coach Mike Bailey, who will step down at the end of the season. Bailey also will be recognized following the game.
